The fitting appointment typically takes 1-hour. The patient is instructed in the use and care of the hearing instruments including insertion, removal, adjusting, cleaning, and telephone use.
The first review appointment takes place 1-week after the fitting.
The patient is encouraged to ask questions and to provide the audiologist with information about their experiences to determine what, if any, adjustments need to be made on the hearing instruments in order to provide the best possible hearing and communication experience.
Additional appointments are scheduled during the 30-day trial period (usually 2-3 appointments) to be sure all goals are met. Some time is taken to explain and review assistive device technology which may be useful to the patient, such as amplified telephone, personal FM units, and infrared TV amplification systems.
